SOLDERING IRON, NON-ELECTRIC
(SOLDERING COPPERS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
Abstract. This description covers non-electric soldering irons, commonly referred to as soldering coppers to be used for applying heat to melt solder and to heat metal that is to be joined by soldering.
Classification. The soldering irons shall be of the following styles and sizes. The style and size to-be furnished shall be as specified.
Style I- Pointed (pyramid) tip
Style II- Flat (wedge) tip

Size 1- 4 ounces |
Size 7- 2-1/2 pounds |

Size 2- 8 ounces |
Size 8- 3 pounds |

Size 3- 12 ounces |
Size 9- 4 pounds |
|
Size 4- 1 pound |
Size 10- 5 pounds |

Size 5- 1-1/2 pounds |
Size 11- 6 pounds |

Size 6- 2 pounds |
Size 12- 7 pounds |
Note. Size is defined as the total weight for each soldering iron (copper) including the handle rod. The weight shall be within a tolerance of 0 to + 15 percent of the weight for the size specified.
Salient characteristics. The soldering irons shall meet the following minimum requirements.
1. Materials. The body shall be manufactured from copper which shall be not less than 99.9 percent pure. The handle rod shall be manufactured from corrosion resistant steel.
