3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 General requirements. The electrode holders shall be fully insulated to protect the welder from electrical shock and shall meet the requirements listed in table I. The holder shall be able to withstand a 6-foot drop on a hard surface without being damaged.

3.2 Holder body. The electrical current-carrying body of the holder shall be made of either managanese bronze, brass, or copper. The electrical conducting components of the holder shall have a minimum International Annealed Copper Standard (IACS) volumetric electrical conductivity of 20 percent at 68 degrees Fahrenheit when tested in accordance with ASTM B193.
3.3 Handle. The handle on the electrode holders shall not be less than 5 inches in length. The handle shall be made of insulating material to protect the user and to withstand the intense heat produced during the welding process.
3.4 Type I requirements. The type I holder shall be similar to that depicted in figure 1 and shall be designed in such a manner that a twist of the handle shall lock and unlock the electrode from the holder.
